Many people view survivalists as fearful, crazy, schizophrenic individuals.... I'm here to say, that is not true at all(you may find some a bit loopy)but not us all... To be honest, I could care less about what people think or how they may view me. I always say you're better safe than sorry. I pray they don't end up being the sorry ones in the long run and start preparing. What provokes me to write this blog you might ask?... Well for one, I want to inform others in how to become well equipped with the proper gear, and supplies needed in any emergency situation. Being prepared doesn't take much money, time or effort to be honest. You can do it on a budget in small steps. No one said you had to go out and buy a cart full of supplies in one day (that's overwhelming and very costly) Second, I love what I do any I want to share it with others. Note: Being a survivalist isn't just someone who buys a few flashlights, batteries and survival gear, a survivalist actually lives, breathes and eats it. It is actually a way of thinking, a way of living that counts. You can look at a supply list all day, get everything on the list but if you don't know how to properly use these tools you may find yourself in a world of trouble when the time comes to actually use them... And trust me, the last thing you want to do is find yourself in a emergency situation where you have the tools but you don't know how to properly use them. Survivalists gear themselves with the knowledge they need to perform necessary tasks and learn survival skills that will/can save lives. For many years now I have been gathering materials and supplies to ensure the protection, safety, as well as knowledge to meet my families needs during an emergency situation. This world as you know, is changing... And it doesn't appear to be for the better. Global Warming may not be thought to be a real threat but we can all see how the weather is drastically changing. Storms, Floods and Natural Disasters are becoming more powerful than ever before. People seem to be losing their marbles more and more, things are becoming more hostile overseas, wars and famine threaten us whether you want to believe it or not, it is happening. Millions of Americans here in the U.S. can barely feed their families and they're hungry. About half of America is using food stamps because their income alone is not enough to pay the bills and for food. They say there are two things that are definite in life, that is death and taxes... we simply cannot escape either one but if we're smart we can prolong our lives if we think ahead and get equipped with the right gear(mentally & physically). Just think about this for a minute... You're sitting on the couch watching television with your family, everyone just finished eating dinner. An alarm broadcasting system interferes with the T.V. show you were all just watching(I know families don't watch tv together anymore) It's not the 90's lol.... But anyway, there is a national weather warning announcing a Tornado watch is threatening your county. Before you know it the tornado hit your town and is now touching down, it wipes out the power for miles and miles(including yours). There is no way to communicate with anyone, your home is completely damaged. Luckily, you are safe because you hid in a basement with your family and a backpack you managed to grab before hiding in the closet. You have a backup generator but the home is leveled so it is of no use to you. #1: You are in a far better situation compared to many others who weren't prepared. This is all due to the fact that you have a backpack full of basic survival supplies. Inside you have a can opener, two cans of beans, canned chicken, eating utensils, freeze dried snacks, first aid kit, socks, 3 flashlights, batteries a lighter, 2 large tarps, 2 blankets, first aid kit and hygiene supplies. As well as a few bottles of water per person. This should be enough to last you only a few days. The most important thing is you have supplies. Your neighbors on the other hand are frantically searching the rubble that lays beneath them, with no supplies in sight. They feel desperate and helpless. The first thing you do is find shelter, since there is a tree blocking the main road there is no way help can get to you. Begin by checking to see if anyone needs immediate medical attention, second asses the situation and keep your family close by. Try to set up camp/ temporary shelter using any type of materials you can find. Build protection against the elements as the rain is still coming down slowly, but the last thing you want is to be wet and cold in the middle of the night. They only thing you have to wear is on your back. The whole purpose of this is to get you to envision yourself in this situation, put yourself in the shoes of this person and feel the way they would if this were a real situation. Would you be more comfortable with a backpack full of supplies, or with nothing at all? Why not be prepared? And whose to say you have a backpack full of supplies and you don't have time to reach it, it is still good to know that in some place in all of that rubble that backpack is waiting to be found. And that should give you determination to continue to go on and it raises moral. Just know this, It Is Better To Be Safe Than Sorry :) Good luck on your preparations...
